The Ding Darling National Wildlife Refuge is a protected 8,000-acre ecological gem on Sanibel Island is refuge to more than 200 bird species, many of which are rare or endangered. Most visitors will have a chance to see amazing wildlife such as pink spoonbills, alligators and crocodiles, manatees and Atlantic loggerhead turtles within the area’s diverse habitat of mangrove forests and sea grass beds.
